Water monitoring

Some of our members took part in the Great UK Water Blitz in 2024, a citizen science project monitoring the health of local water courses.

In 2025 we'll be looking into many more ways of helping to improve water quality in Chapel.

This includes:

  • Getting outfall safari training - read more about polluting outfall pipes
  • Looking into the “Blue Influencers Scheme” which provides mentoring and funding for 10 to 14 year olds, to become “Blue Influencers” as part of efforts to improve rivers. There is funding available for young people to train via Mersey RiversTrust.
  • Exploring opportunities via the Riverfly project which supports local groups to carry out surveys of aquatic invertebrates
  • And of course, litter picking near and on the banks of our local water courses
